Urban Idea Lab is the urban design and architecture consultant on this major project to upgrade the MBTA’s Green Line for increased capacity and full accessibility. New, larger vehicles with level-boarding capability will transform the Green Line system for the twenty-first century. A green approach to the Green Line has been in the forefront of UIL’s approach to the project and includes sustainability and resiliency as key factors in both planning and design. In addition to the ability to attract more people to ride public transit and leave their cars behind--a substantial improvement on its own--UIL is exploring greening the corridor to increase the tree canopy and reduce heat island effects and providing photo-voltaic panels to allow each station to be self-sufficient.
Green Line Transformation Project includes Boston, Brookline and Newton, MA. Ms. Padmodipoetro is currently leading the UIL team on the GLT Project. The Green Line is the oldest subway system in the country and is currently undergoing system-wide modernization. The Green Line Transformation Project will deliver increased capacity and full accessibility. Urban Idea Lab is presently working on the urban design and architecture component in support of the GLT Team. Focusing on customer service, the stations will be redesigned and upgraded for larger vehicles with level-boarding capability. This project will transform the Green Line system for the twenty-first century.
